Why did Champaign Telephone (CPHT) rebrand Champaign Telephone Company (CTC)?

Champaign Telephone Company (CTC) rebranded as Consolidated Communications. There are a few reasons why this change makes a lot of sense for a company like Champaign Telephone Company. First and foremost, the community-driven telecommunications company has looked at the desires and expectations of their customers and decided to embrace them by capitalizing on their strengths. Secondly, by becoming Consolidated Communications, they'll be able to provide better service than before. They will also continue to offer phone service in Champaign County but expand into other counties as well.

"This company decision will allow us to serve the Champaign area better while more effectively competing in this ever-changing marketplace we call the telecom industry," said Mike Santoro, President, and CEO.

"The new name reflects our commitment to providing advanced broadband services and advanced features," said President and CEO Kevin O'Brien. "Consolidated Communications Holdings will provide CTC with an exciting new future that will enable us to better serve our customers with unmatched communications solutions that include voice, data, Internet, and video."

The change of name happened on March 29th, 2016. The merger took full effect in the spring of 2020 and involved CTC's telephone customers in Champaign and Vermillion Counties.
